How the ladder works
A ladder tournament is centered around a player ranking ladder--a list of players ranked by skill level, from most to up-and-coming. Playing "the ladder" consists of players challenging other players to matches with the goal of moving up the rankings ladder. Winners move up the ladder, while losers move down the rankings ladder. Over time the rankings sort players of similar skill level.

The JPLBC ladder works the following way:
  • Challenges consist of 2 nine-end games and a three-end tie-breaker if necessary. A challenge should take about 1-2 hours to play.
  • Players have 10 days to play the match once the challenge is issued.
  • Matches not played and recorded in 10 days, are considered a forfeit, and the Challenger wins
  • When the challenger wins, the challenger takes the challengee's position on the ladder. The challengee moves down one position on the ladder. All players below the challengee also move down one position. If the challenger loses, the rankings do not change.
  • Players can challenge others that are up to 3 positions above their current position. Players cannot challenge players of lower ranking.
  • Players can only be involved in 1 challenge at a time
  • When a player joins the ladder, they are placed in last position.
  • For a player's first challenge, they have a one time opportunity, to challenge anyone on the ladder--including position 1. This is an exception to the 3 position rule, and intended to allow players to position themselves quickly among players of similar skills. However, if the challenger looses this match they will remain at the bottom of the ladder and need to move up as normal.
  • The players are solely responsible for entering match results into this web site. Not entering results in a timely manner may cause a forfeit.
