We're expecting B-n-B to be more popular this year due to the nice mention in the Seattle Magazine article a few months ago.
Its Nishikawa took first place in the 2006 Jefferson Park Men's Singles Tournament. Second place went to Richard Broad who edged out David Chapman by 1 plus-point.
We took 12 bowlers to North Burnaby today and played two games of ten ends each. We keep the trophy, wining a hard fought five games to three. A big thank you to our gracious hosts at North Burnaby for a great day of bowling and camaraderie. If you're a member and didn't make to N. Burnaby this year, make sure to schedule time to go on our visit to White Rock B.C. in 2007.
This last week has had a couple of interesting articles related to lawn bowling show up.. The article "Queen of Lawn Bowls" about a young female bowler from Malaysia is a good read for those interested or just getting started w/ lawn bowling.
'Mention lawn bowl, and we picture elderly people crowding onto a small field throwing a “ball” while others gather around.
Well, thanks to Siti Zalina and the country’s posse of young men and women, lawn bowl is now the “in-thing”.' Read more...
The Seattle Parks Board voted 4-1 to NOT pursue lighted fields on the southern reservoir portion of Jefferson Park (directly northwest of the JPLBC Clubhouse). The Parks Board commissioners mentioned time and again the feedback they had received from neighbors and park advocates.
So it looks like the views are safe for everyone's enjoyment for years to come. Thank you to any members who voiced their opinion about this issue to the Parks Board. And a special thanks to Willie for passing this info on.
If you pick up this month's (May 06') issue of Seattle Magazine you'll find that our very own Brunch and Bowls makes a very short list of Seattle's "Funky Brunch" opportunities. The article finds us in very good company along with brunch spots The Alibi Room and Tom Douglas' Lola.
Thanks to Kat and Willie for coming up with and instituting the idea last year. By all acounts it was a success with available spots for brunch dates filling up quickly. We believe it also accounted for a few new members as well. We'll be continuing the brunches this summer.
